Blue bloaters and nish nobblers were on the menu for children at Halifax Central Library.

The library, on Northgate, became Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory for the day with children put to work designing their own Wonka Bars.

Junior librarians began the day of sweet treats with a reading of Roald Dahl’s children’s classic Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Everyone then got to taste some blue bloaters and nish nobblers before creating their own wrappers for Wonka bars complete with golden tickets – which earned Charlie his trip around the factory in the book.

The event was part of the library’s summer programme, which offers a range of activities to keep children busy and interested in reading over the summer holidays.
