A STUDENT will cycle 125 miles – without leaving Halifax – to raise money to do voluntary work in Nepal.
Becky Costello is planning a month-long trip to the country to volunteer in local hospitals.
The 21-year-old of Daleside, Greetland, will graduate from a physiotherapy course at Manchester Metropolitan University in July.
She plans to raise enough money to travel to Nepal in September to work with physiotherapists there.
"Nepal is an extremely poor country and many people do not have access to the essential healthcare they need.
"There are many adults and children with physical disabilities that go untreated there who would receive routine treatment in England," she said.
"I hope I can use the skills I have learned at university and on placements in hospitals to help treat these people."
During her trip Becky will live with a local family.
The sponsored cycle ride next month will take place at North Bridge Leisure Centre, Halifax. Becky will cycle 125 miles, which is the width of Nepal, on a static bike.
She hopes to complete it in 10 hours over two days of cycling.
Becky is hoping to raise up to £2,000 to help cover the costs of the trip.
She said: "North Bridge has been very good and organised everything for me.
"The bike will be in reception so people can see me when they come in."
The challenge will start on April 5.
So far Becky has raised about £200 in sponsorship.
