PRIMARY pupils proved their environmental credentials with a "green week."
Calderdale College fashion students took sewing machines and samples into Withinfields Primary, Southowram, to show the pupils techniques.

They decorated tee-shirts, made bags from recycled materials and put on a fashion show in an afternoon assembly with parents.

There was a visit to Ovenden wind farm and the children went inside the windmills.

The week was organised by head Duncan Hetherington and teachers Rachel Dunn and Simon Collins.

Mr Collins said: "It was all about sustainability, so we had lots of recycling. The children brought in cardboard and plastic from home."

Pupils made bookmarks out of recycled carrier bags and paper with the Alternative Technology Centre from Hebden Bridge.

They planted trees at Cromwell Woods, Elland, and helped design a brochure for a new play area.

Mr Collins said: "It has been pretty hectic and fun, but with a message. The children are aware of the importance of the environment and that climate change is going to affect them more than their teachers and parents."
