A HALIFAX teenager is to judge a national book prize competition.
Aniketa Khushu (pictured), of Heath Lea, Well Head, Halifax, will travel to London to pick the best of six books aimed at teenagers.

The 14-year-old Crossley Heath School pupil wrote a short story, My Great Escape, which was picked from thousands of entrants as a winner of the 2008 Booktrust Teenage Judges Competition.

She said: "My story was about a girl whose parents used to argue a lot and during one argument she sat down at the piano and played a piece and she escaped into her music."

Her prize is a place on the judging panel for the 2008 Booktrust Teenage Prize, which recognises and celebrates the best contemporary writing for teenagers.

On November 4 she will travel to London to meet the other judges to choose the winning book. She will return to London on November 18 for the awards.
