EMPTY spaces have been transformed by artwork created by young people.
The youngsters decided to brighten up their local community with pieces of art they produced under the Changing Spaces project, as a Christmas present to local organisations in Halifax.

A large mural is cheering up the entrance of the Scope Outreach Centre in Francis Street.

And some of the group's own paintings have gone on display at Mixenden Parents Centre in Stanningley Road.

The group was taking part in Wise Up Arts workshops – based in the Piece Hall – in partnership with Calderdale Council's Youth Offending Team and local graphic designs company CS Designs, based in Todmorden.

Sue Walker, creative director at Wise Up, said: "The Changing Spaces project was a real opportunity for young people to give something back to the community, to channel their energies into something positive and worthwhile and to make a difference to other people's lives, as well as their own.

"At the start of the project, many of the participants didn't believe that they were any good at art, but the results speak for themselves and the work that has been produced is fantastic."

The project was funded with help from the Positive Activities for Young People scheme through Calderdale Council's Libraries, Museums and Arts section.
