An acoustic treat from a super star
As the original guitarist, singer and main songwriter in the British rock band The Stranglers, he’s enjoyed massive success with 10 hit albums and 21 Top Forty singles, etching himself into Europe and the USA’s musical psyche with classic songs, including Peaches, No More Heroes, Golden Brown, Nice N’ Sleazy, Always the Sun and Duchess.
On Wednesday, November 4 Hugh, who has produced six solo albums since going alone 25 years ago, brings an acoustic set to the Carriageworks in Leeds when he will be playing tracks from his most recent album Totem & Taboo, which was released a couple of years ago and tracks from the anthology of his post-Stanglers career The Fall and Rise of Hugh Cornwell which was released at the end of August.

His first solo record “Wolf” (1988) was released whilst still a member of the Stranglers but, since leaving The Stranglers in 1990, Hugh has made series of well-received solo albums including: “Wired” (1993), “Guilty” (1997), “Hi Fi” (2000), “Beyond Elysian Fields” (2004), “Hooverdam” (2008) with producers including Tony Visconti, Laurie Latham and Liam Watson.
Cornwell remains one of the most important figures in punk and new wave music.
Always ahead of the curve, he has made headlines both with the music and innovative approaches to reaching new audiences over the years, being at the forefront of experimentation with free downloads and crowdfunding.
