Square Chapel patrons, actors George Costigan (Happy Valley, Rita, Sue and Bob Too, Shirley Valentine) and Tim Pigott-Smith (V For Vendetta, Johnny English, Gangs of New York) have teamed together for a live performance of some of their favourite prose, plays, poetry and songs on Sunday February 28 at 7.30pm.

The evening will also include an exclusive short play written and directed by fellow Square Chapel patron, Sally Wainwright (Last Tango in Halifax, Happy Valley and Scott & Bailey).

Costigan, currently filming the follow-up series of Happy Valley - which is shot in Calderdale, said:

“The very first television part I ever played was in Howard Springs’ Fame Is The Spur back in 1977, co-starring with - Tim Pigott-Smith...The latest television part I’ve had is Nevison Gallagher in Happy Valley written by Sally Wainwright...That we are all three patrons of Square Chapel is a very happy coincidence and I’m very pleased and looking forward to being back in Yorkshire with these two talented people.”

The British classical stage and TV actor Tim Pigott-Smith, who won a BAFTA Award for Best Actor for his part in The Jewel in The Crown, will be heading to Square Chapel in Halifax, straight from playing the title role in the Broadway production of King Charles III, directed by Rupert Goold.

Fans of Costigan and Pigott-Smith will also have the chance to get up close and personal with the actors who will join audience members in the Square Chapel bar after the show for a drink and an informal Q&A.

David McQuillan, Director of Square Chapel said: “We are very lucky to have such well-known and active patrons who are willing to give up their time to help raise funds for Square Chapel and its community. I’m looking forward to An Evening with G&T – the audience is in for a real treat.”

After ten years of planning, work started on Square Chapel’s £6.6 million redevelopment project. The capital build will transform the venue by creating a new extension, level access to the main space and improved facilities for everyone who uses the centre. The space will include an intimate 108 seater multi-purpose cinema/studio theatre space for film screenings, performances and workshops; new dressing rooms, improved toilets; a dedicated space for its committed volunteers; and a café-bar. There will also be direct access into the Piece Hall’s new interpretation centre creating a seamless cultural quarter in the heart of Halifax.

An Evening with G&T is part of Square Chapel’s fundraising programme of events and is sponsored by Slingsby – The Spirit of Harrogate and Holdsworth House Hotel.
