Best of brass for Minster’s gala night

A fantastic concert featuring James Shepherd Versatile Brass, Halifax Young Singers and Black Dyke Youth Trombone Quartets will be staged at Halifax Minster on Saturday, September 12 at 7.30pm.

The event is part of the Halifax Heritage Festival 2015 and is sure to be popular with brass lovers of all ages.

James Shepherd Versatile Brass has been performing and thrilling audiences throughout the UK, Europe, and Scandinavia and as far as Australia for more than 40 years. From its inception, the playing members have been handpicked from the very best brass ensembles in the UK. Every musical piece is arranged specifically for the ensemble, with much of the current repertoire provided by the two resident arrangers, Kevin Holdgate and Nigel Lawless.

Halifax Young Singers are now in their 23rd season. The choir meets on Thursday evenings at Carlton United Reformed Church and numbers around 90 singers ranging in age from eight to 21.

As well as giving their own concerts they regularly perform with partners such as Kirklees Youth Symphony Orchestra and Brighouse & Rastrick Band.

Black Dyke Youth Trombone Quartet has made a big impact on the brass scene in the UK including an appearance with the Black Dyke Band at the Symphony Hall Birmingham in 2012. Tickets are £8/£5 from the Minster office on 01422 355436.
