Black Dyke band goes marching on

It is here that Black Dyke will celebrate its 16oth anniversary and its continuing excellence.

The first half of the concert will be given by the current members of the band.

In the second half many past members will also join in, including superstar James Shepherd and other well known mucisians like John Clough, Frank Renton and Richard Evans.

The music will embrace many different styles across the years with a première performance of a work by composer Peter Graham.

The concert also includes Black Dyke’s own Yorkshire Youth Brass Band.

Sharing the conductors’ podium with Professor Nicholas Childs will be Guest Conductor, Derek Broadbent – (of Floral Dance fame) - a past Resident Musical Director of Black Dyke in the 1980s, where in a not-so-unusual prolific season, the band won a Grand Slam of competitions - which was repeated in 2014.

As many Yorkshire brass band aficionados will already know, the history of Black Dyke Band is star-studded. Sir Elton John referred to the Queensbury-based Ensemble as “The greatest brass band in the world.”

The band has graced some of the finest concert halls in the world including Carnegie Hall in New York and Australia’s iconic Opera House. And it even played with The Beatles on the track Yellow Submarine.

Of all Yorkshire’s artistic superstars, probably no one or no ensemble can boast such a proud record as the Black Dyke Band and it can be guaranteed that the band will be at its very best on July 12. In fact it will be just too good to miss.
