‘Boyhood’ kicks off 49th film season

Halifax Film Society begins its 49th season on Sunday, September 20 with Richard Linklater’s acclaimed ‘Boyhood’, described as ‘one of the great films of the year’.

The society, which was formed in 1966 to show the best in world cinema, holds screenings at Halifax Playhouse.

Future screenings will include ‘Before the Winter Chill’, starring Kristin Scott Thomas’, on October 4 and Calderdale company Pathways Productions’ ‘Halifax, Past, Present and Future’ on November 8.

The season continues with ‘Omar’ on November 15, ‘Two Days, One Night’ with Marion Cotillard on November 29 and the inspirational film ‘Pride’, starring Bill Nighy and Imedla Staunton, on December 13.

After Christmas the films ‘Ida’, ‘Still Life’, ‘x+y’, ‘What We Did on our Holiday’, ‘Catch Me Daddy’ and ‘Wild Tales’ will be shown.

The first film screened by the Halifax Playhouse Film Club in 1996 was Roamn Polanski’s ‘Knife Under Water’ which was shown again for the society’s 40th anniversary in 2006 when founder member Coun Barry Collins gave a talk.

The full season’s membership is £36 for all shows (£24 concessions). Four shows can be seen for £16 (concessions £12).
