Brighouse’s finest will perform in arts festival

We live in the heart of brass band country and Brighouse and Rastrick have earned the right to be considered one of the finest championship bands around.

Such is their reputation that they attract players from all over the world, presently including Australia, Belgium and New Zealand.

Brighouse Arts Festival is delighted to host a performance at Central Methodist Church on Thursday September 24 sponsored by Webster’s Insurance.

The band was crowned champions at the 2014 Regional Championships in Bradford and they subsequently came second in the nationals - their best result for a number of years.

They are extremely busy and have a number of local concerts planned including October 24 at Huddersfield Town Hall when their guests will be The Band of the King’s Division with Rob Wiffin OBE as guest conductor.

The visual arts are well represented in this year’s Festival thanks to the support of the Mirfield Creative Arts Hub and Mark Milnes its Director. As the festival week approaches there have been installations in a number of venues. No 43 Coffee shop has a particularly impressive series of paintings by Tony Chisholm.

For those who are visitors to Pregos then your meal will be looked over by large canvases by Ian Clegg, mostly in black and white they evoke animal welfare and a gentle mythology. These are accompanied by work from Louis Elizabeth, an alternative textile/floral designer and textiles by Juko designs. A gentle walk to the Pot Shop reveals a collection of sculpture by Mark Milnes who will also be showing a much larger piece at The Millers Bar. Harrison Lord are also showing work from artists from their own books with exciting work from regional and national based artists on show throughout the festival period.

This part of the festival has expanded in recent years as more and more artists are encouraged to show in the town and enhancing its profile as an art and tourist destination.
