Chamber choir is ready for Christmas

Halifax Chamber Choir will be at St Jude’s Church, Free School Lane, Halifax, on Saturday, December 5, at 7.30pm for a concert of carols and carol singing directed by Aljosa Skorja and accompanied by David Baker.

‘Good Old Fashioned Christmas’ is a showcase of well-loved and popular carols selected by Aljosa Skorja, who was appointed director of the choir in September. He said: “I was exposed to the best of British music quite early on in my career and have been fascinated by the immense power of these simple carols.

“One of the fondest memories as a student was being on tour in Kent with our school chamber choir and being asked to sing at the host school’s Christmas carol service - again, the power of these melodies was absolutely fascinating. I don’t think Slovenia, where I come from, has a repertoire of Christmas music which comes close to that”. The programme follows the Christmas story and includes traditional English, Welsh and Czech carols and carols by Herbert Howells, Benjamin Britten and Morten Lauridsen. The choir will be accompanied by Professor David Baker.
