Double bill looks at artistic genius

On the face of it the two may have little in common - but both Van Gogh and Mozart were geniuses in their field, and both are still celebrated for their work today.

Chantry Dance Company’s 2015 touring programme will include ‘DUOLOGY: ‘Vincent – a stranger to himself’, performed by Chantry’s professional dancers as well as aspiring young dancers in the ensemble.

Four student dancers have been selected through an audition to join Chantry for this production, winning the incredible opportunity to work alongside professionals and to experience life as a dancer in a company.

The ballet is based on the life of Van Gogh and pursues the man behind the self-portrait, his relationship with the women he loved, as well as with his one true passion - his art.

The other ballet in the programme is ‘Eine Kleine Nachtmusik’. Set to Mozart’s famous serenade, this ballet invites the audience to create their own interpretation of the dance imagery they are presented with, showing that often there is no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ way of understanding dance.

The ’DUOLOGY’ tour is performed by a highly skilled cast, and provides a great evening of entertainment. Singer and TV presenter Simon Butteriss said of Chantry’s work, ‘…hugely impressive event last night – amazing.’

Other audience members have been equally delighted, saying, ‘superb’, ‘pure brilliance’ and ‘Paul Chantry and the Chantry Dance Company…. you rock!”

Chantry Dance Company is a theatrical contemporary ballet company formed in May 2012. It is led by co-artistic directors and choreographers Paul Chantry and Rae Piper. The company was founded initially in London, but re-located to Grantham, East Midlands, as it identified a specific need for high-quality, professional contemporary ballet performance and education opportunities in the region.

CDC aims to use dance to tell stories - both old and new - that inspire, engage, and capture the heart and imagination of the audience.

The company seeks to develop and broaden dance audiences within the theatre by creating accessible work, while maintaining high artistic and technical performance standards.

The company will be at Square Chapel arts centre, Halifax, on Saturday, September 26 at 7.30pm.
