Festival attractsa global line-up

The programme has been announced for next year’s prestigious Hebden Bridge Piano Festival - and a weekend packed with concerts, masterclasses, free gigs and children’s events is promised.

The three-day festival, organised by director Dave Nelson, starts on Friday, April 22 at Hebden Bridge Town Hall.The opening concert will be by Yorkshire-born Benjamin Frith, one of the UK’s top pianists, with a recital of Liszt, mcMillan and Schubert.

Also headlining the festival is Mishka Rushdie Momen, who received first prize at the Dudley International Piano Competition in 2014. She will play some of the greatest works from the classical repertoire alongside challenging 20th century compositions.

Also playing at the festival will be Anna Tcybuleva, winner of the 2015 Leeds Piano Competition, highly-acclaimed Polish pianist Alicja Fiderkiewicz , 2012 BBC Young Musician of the Year Yuanfan Yang and young Athens-based pianist Sophia Matagou.

There’s a distinctly international flavour to the 2016 line-up with pianists from China, Russia, Poland, India and Greece mixing it with more regional talent.

Ticket prices will rise slightly this year but, as always, there will be free concerts in the café and subsidised recitals for children. Tickets will go on sale from the festival launch on Saturday, March 5.
