Comfort in numbers

Described as a film '˜to move even the hardest of souls', '˜X + Y' starring Rafe Spall, Sally Hawkins and Eddie Marsan is the next film choice for Halifax Film Society.

Newcomer Asa Butterfield appears as teenager Nathan who struggles to connect with those around him - most of all his loving mother (played by Sally Hawkins) but finds comfort in numbers.

When he is taken under the wing of unconventional and anarchic teacher Mr Humphreys, an unusual friendship is forged and Nathan’s talents win him a place on the UK team at the International Mathematics Olympiad.

‘X + Y’, directed by Morgan Matthew, tracks the funny and complex relationships that Nathan builds as he is confronted by the irrational nature of love.
