Folding back boundaries for a totally new sound

On their debut LP (released earlier this month) experimental Leeds-based quartet Fold have assembled a ten track narrative that has caught the ears of music industry aficionados including perhaps their biggest fan, Blur’s Dave Rowntree who described them as “so interesting, so original”.

Leeds-based Seth Mowshowitz (benevolent dictator, beats, keys & guitar) is joined by locals Ben Walsh (bass), Josh Gardziel (guitar) and Kane Rattray on drums.

In a vein similar to Public Enemy, and more recently Public Service Broadcasting (a band that Fold have remixed & twice supported), Fold carefully weave both the natural spoken rhythms and eloquence of many voices past and present into a unique tapestry of hip hop, funk, jazz, and psychedelic rock threads.

The band has laid the groundwork for their album by self-releasing a series of singles that have garnered significant support from UK radio including 6 Music’s Lauren Laverne, Huey Morgan, Don Letts and especially Gideon Coe.

Blur’s Dave Rowntree is arguably their biggest fan having brought Seth in as a guest on his XFM show in September. XFM’s John Kennedy has also been a long standing supporter.

With a solid base of regional radio support Fold make regular guest appearances on stations in the North including Alan Raw’s BBC Introducing West Yorkshire.

“We are really pleased for the first time in a long time to give a band with local connections a headline slot as they go on tour to promote their debut album,” says Doghouse promoter Michael Ainsworth.

Sharing the headline is Welsh band Seazoo who come fresh from a 6 Music session and festival appearance at Green Man Festival.

‘Car Deborah’ is their brand new EP consisting of five tracks of gently fuzzy, mildly irked alternative thrummings with glowing guitars and lo-fi sensibilities. And opening the evening are Saints Alive, a local band.
