Gala tribute to Danny Jones

Halifax Amateur Operatic Society is producing a special gala tribute night in memory of rugby league player Danny Jones featuring one of their brightest stars ... his wife Lizzie.

She has been a leading member of the Amateur Operatic Society for many years and only in 2013 played Suki, one of the three Witches of Eastwick in a memorable production.

Lizzie, who will sing the rugby league anthem Abide With Me at the Challenge Cup final on Saturday, will join a host of performers for the show at the Victoria Theatre, Halifax on September 11 (starts 7.30pm) raising money for a Trust Fund to secure the future of the couple’s twins Phoebe and Bobby.

Danny, a former Halifax player died tragically while playing for Keighley Cougars in May.

The Danny Jones One In A Million show was dreamed up by Laraine Cowgill, a long time family friend and production manager with HAOS; TV personality Neil Hurst and Luke Robbins Ross, HAOS musical director.

Neil Hurst will present the evening which will star comedian Billy Pearce, X Factor’s Tenors of Rock and a 50 strong choir including members of HAOS singing classics, many chosen by the Jones family.

Lizzie will perform Andrea Bocelli’s The Prayer with Gareth Richards of Tenors of Rock while the choir has learned the Welsh National Anthem, which Danny who played for Wales, always wanted the learn, but sadly never got chance to.
