Great line-up for fourth arts festival

Brighouse Arts Festival is in the final stages of planning for its fourth year.

Six days of music, dance, drama, literature and visual arts will transform the town between September 21 and 26 and here’s a sneak preview of some of the performances we can look forward to.

This year sees a wide range of activities to choose from and organisers have gone all out to provide something for every member of the family.

The highlights of the week will be the opening concert by Jenny Stafford and Rebecca Taylor at the Smith Art Gallery plus The Foot in the Barrel Theatre groups production of John Godber’s Bouncers at Waring Green Community Centre, Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band at the Central Methodist Church, Peter Cain and Brian Perkins at The Salvation Army Citadel and a performance at the Civic Hall of a Beatles Tribute Band entitled ‘A Night at the Cavern.

The Miller’s Bar will also be hosting a wide range of performances and spectacles which, we are told, are designed to both challenge and amaze.

Throughout the Saturday of the Festival MIller’s will host an open mic poetry /music event, a meal with entertainment in the form of the Leeds based comedy theatre group ‘The Land of Nod’, and during the week, for those who like something a little more risqué a burlesque show with members of the ‘Kitty Kat Club’.

This event is also coupled with a meal and early booking is recommended to avoid missing out.

Similarly if you fancy resurrecting those holiday memories of Italian food, drink and music then Prego’s will be offering and romantic evening of Italian Music.

There are also a number of children’s events including the Saturday morning art club at the Smith Gallery.

If you just fancy looking at some artwork there are a large number of venues that are hosting exhibitions mostly generated from the Mirfield Arts Hub and organized by Mark Milnes.

Tickets went on sale on July 1 and programmes are also due to be ready for distribution at the time of the Echo and Courier going to press.
