Hills come alive with magic music

St Matthew’s Church, Lightcliffe, will play host to a feast of top-class music when Royal Northern College of Music graduates Juliet Montgomery and Aidan Edwards return to sing some of the greatest numbers from favourite musicals.

The two singers will be supported in ‘The Hills are Alive - The Magic of the Musicals’ by the Northowram Singers and accompanied by a musical ensemble led by musical director Rob Paxman. The soloists will include Kim Atkinson on clarinet and flute, David Buck on bassoon, Maggie Miller on viola, Barbara Stephenson on cello and Susan Udall on violin.

Producer and narrator John Brooke said: “This will be the third year running that Juliet and Aidan have performed at our autumn concert at St Matthew’s and I know many people are eagerly awaiting their return. The concert promises to be the highlight of the Hipperholme and Lightcliffe calendar.”

The concert will raise funds for the Friends of St Matthew’s Churchyard which was set up in 2012 to protect and preserve the churchyard.

Aidan Edwards, from Halifax, is a baritone currently studying for his masters at the Royal Northern College of Music. He performed his first principal role in 2013 as Drebyednetsov in ‘Paradise Moscow’.

He is also a keen recitalist performing regularly in ‘An Evening of Song’ with soprano Juliet Montgomery.

The concert starts at 7.30pm. Tickets are £7 in advance (available from Colin’s News and Lightcliffe Tea Rooms) and £8 on the door.
