Life is a Cabaret old chum

Society chairman Geoff Cowgill said: “This is the first time we have performed at the Square Chapel and we are looking forward to it immensely.

“With part of the performance space being transformed into a cabaret venue some of our audience will actually become part of the production which will help make the atmosphere very authentic”.

The musical - which became a hit on the stage in both Broadway and London in the mid-Sixties, and even more famous with the 1972 film starring Liza Minelli and Michael York - is set in Berlin during the rise of Hitler’s Third Reich where Emcee invites customers to “come to the cabaret” and forget their troubles for a while.

Many of the songs are instantly recognizable such as Money Makes the World Go Round, Wilkommen, and of course the title song Cabaret.

Becky Cawthra takes the roll of Sally Bowles while Ashley Davis is Emcee.

Becky began her stage career with our junior Society (HATY) taking many leading roles, progressing onto do the same with the seniors.

Her last appearance was playing Doreen in our highly successful production of Hairspray last September.

Ashley has also taken many leading roles in the area including playing the male lead Darryl Van Horne in our April, 2014 production of The Witches of Eastwick.

The production runs from the July 15 to 19 starting at 7.30pm. There is also a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm.

Ticket prices range from a table for 4 at £70, tiered seats at £15 with the matinee having a special senior citizen’s ticket at £10.
