Comedy feast at Victoria

The next four months will see over a dozen household name comedians perform at the theatre, many of whom are part of the inaugural Halifax Comedy Festival which runs from October 23-31 across 14 different venues.

Those coming to the Vic as part of the Festival include Paul Chowdhry, Andy Hamilton, Jasper Carrott, Alistair McGowen and Shappi Khorsandhi.

Hot on their heels will be Alan Davies, Dara O’Briain, Bill Bailey and Ruby Wax, who all bring their new tours to the Theatre in November.

You don’t have to wait until October for your fill of laughter: the season opens with the award-winning Avenue Q (Sept 29 to Oct 3) - a smash hit on Broadway, in the West End and most recently in a critically-acclaimed 2014 UK Tour. Avenue Q is a Tony Award-winning musical about growing up, dreaming big, and finding your purpose in life.

There is plenty of family-focussed laughter on offer, too. The Halifax Comedy Festival programme includes children’s shows and themed creative workshops for children of all ages.

The season closes with the annual festive pantomime produced by Imagine Theatre, which this year will be Cinderella.

This marks the seventh consecutive year of collaboration between the Vic and Imagine Theatre – a partnership which is going from strength to strength.

Alongside its comedy programme, the Vic’s new season also features a great range of live music, musicals, ballet and opera. Highlights include David Gest’s (I’ve Had) The Time of My Life Tour, acclaimed Yorkshire folk-singer Kate Rusby and The Russian State Ballet and Opera House’s La Traviata and The Nutcracker.
