It’s victory for comedian Alan in the laughter wars

Comedian Alan Davies can certainly claim to have foundthe winning formula with his ‘Little Victories’ tour.

In 2014 the 55-date UK tour was a phenomenal success and extra dates were added this spring. Now public demand has led to an extra 15 dates this autumn.

The ‘Little Victories’ show will be at the Victoria Theatre, Halifax, on Friday, November 6 and tickets are now on sale on 01422 351158. 
 Alan’s chortle-inducing show has been praised for its ‘deft silliness and shrewd observation’.

Probably best known as the much-loved resident dunderhead on TV’s ‘QI’ and star of the iconic series ‘Jonathan Creek’, he began his career in stand-up comedy in 1988 and was runner-up in the City Limits New Act of the Year contest 1989. He was named Time Out Best Young Comic in 1991 and two years later appearances on C4’s ‘Viva Cabaret’ led to a nomination for a British Comedy Award as Best Newcomer.

In 1994 he won an Edinburgh Festival Critics Award for Comedy and a Perrier Award Nomination and the show was released on VHS as Live At The Lyric. The following year he appeared at the Montreal, Melbourne and Auckland Comedy Festivals and was nominated for a British Comedy Award as Best Stand-Up Comedian.

TV work was to follow with Alan taking the eponymous role of ‘Jonathan Creek’, written by David Renwick, in 1996. The show continues to attract huge audiences and has won numerous awards, including a BAFTA and a National TV Award.

His 1998 show, Urban Trauma ran at the Duchess Theatre before touring the UK and was recorded for a DVD and shown on BBC1 with a documentary series about the tour, Stand-Up with Alan Davies.

In 2001 Alan took the role of Bob in Russel T.Davies’ ‘Bob & Rose’ for which he was awarded Best Actor in a Drama at the Monte Carlo Television Awards.

Stage work followed with roles in ‘Auntie and Me’ as well as a lead role in the ITV1 legal drama ‘The Brief’. His first book ‘My Favourite People 1978-1988’ was published by Penguin in 2009. Alan’s first UK tour for a decade, ‘Life is Pain’ was critically acclaimed across the Australia, New Zealand the UK.
