Her poems are instantly recognisable and dependably hilarious, their apparent simplicity masking her keen eye for everyday absurdities and hair-trigger timing.

Her illustrious career has included performances for the Queen, international tours, and her own shows on BBC Radio 2 and Radio 4.

From reading her earliest verses at her local folk club in the early 1970s, Pam’s rise to national fame was meteoric, first through BBC radio, then on the Opportunity Knocks talent show, her first television appearance, in 1975.

Her recent autobiography The Necessary Aptitude covered her childhood in Berkshire and her time in the Women’s Royal Air Force.

Pam Ayres performs 40 Years On at the LBT on Wednesday, July 29 at 7.30pm. Tickets, priced at £18 , can be booked at Box Office on 01484 430528 or online at www.thelbt.org.
