Return of the D-Day veterans

Despite being incarcerated in Coldrick Nursing Home, veterans Tommy, Alf and Edwin are determined not to miss out on the anniversary commemorations.

Determined to break out and rejoin their old comrades on the Normandy beaches, the three men start making plans - but how will they escape and what will happen to them on the way?

Alan Stockdill’s funny and touching play ‘Le Grand Return’ follows the band of ageing brothers and their bid to make it to Normandy to pay tribute to a fallen colleague.

First staged by Talking Stock Productions - the team also behind ‘The Last Memory’ and ‘Godfrey’s Last Stand’ - ‘Le Grand Return’ is being staged by Halifax Thespians at Halifax Playhouse from Tuesday, November 17 to Saturday, November 21 at 7.30pm plus a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm.

Alan Stockdill, who wrote the comedy drama. will produce the play which was nominated for Best Drama award at the Greater Manchester Fringe and won the prestigious award for new writing.

The highly-experienced cast includes Keith Royston, Stuart Davison, Giselle Herbert and Roy Byrom.

A gentle comedy about love, remembrance, war and peace, the two-act play has been widely performed across the north of England this year and is making a well-timed visit to Halifax Playhouse.
