Sticking together like glue

When a newly-wed couple realises the flame of their first love has fizzled inside of married life, they find just how far they will go to fix their relationship.

Inspired by award-winning author Etgar Keret’s short story of the same name, Crazy Glue sees Filipa Tomas and Bradley Wayne Smith communicating solely through sound effects and their own invented language as they tell a universal story of love and loss.

The dynamic physical comedy of Buster Keaton ignites with the madcap absurdity of Looney Tunes to reveal the mad, messy, sticky side of love.

The project first began in June of 2012 when Co-Artistic Director Tomas discovered the short story Crazy Glue on Smith’s bookshelf. Now, after three years of collaboration with Halifax native Katharine Markwick the show inspired by that discovery has toured to popular and critical acclaim across the UK, USA and Germany.

“As we explored Etgar Keret’s short story we were intent on creating a universally accessible piece.

“What developed was a theatrical language that blends the physicality of silent films with cartoon-like sound effects. When we then paired this language with complex themes of love and loss we were excited at how it allowed us to focus on them with honesty, openness and humour.”

The performance is on Thursday, November 5 starting at 8pm. Tickets are £11, £9.

*Katharine Markwick helped kick off the Halifax Comedy Festival last weekend with her two-woman Six Steps to Joy show in collaboration with Becky Brunning which was watched by a full house. Katharine was brought up in Stainland and met Becky while training at the London International School of Performing Arts.
