Trio set to make waves

The Wave Pictures trio - Jonny Helm, Dave Tattersall and Franic Rozycki - collaborated with one of their all-time heroes, Billy Childish, on their latest album ‘Moshi Moshi’. The album bursts with energy and a garage-rock spark showcasing Dave Tattersall’s searing guitar and sharp lyrical wit.

He said: “We first met Billy in his painting studio in Chatham. It’s daunting to meet your heroes, but he was great – just chatting away in his overalls and beret. Everything from that point on seemed so easy and so exciting. Billy is inspired. He knows exactly what he’s doing.”

Over the years, the trio have also collaborated with musicians such as Daniel Johnston, Stanley Brinks and Darren Hayman.

Having formed when Dave and Franic were teenagers in 1998, the band has always been incredibly prolific, with Dave writing so many songs that the band have made at least one album every year since they moved to London in 2006.

Their varied discography captures a range of styles and influences, from garage rock to afro-pop to country punk, all recorded live with few overdubs.

The new album was recorded entirely using Billy Childish’s equipment including his ‘60s Selmer amps, a ‘60s drum kit and his rocket-shaped guitars. As well as producing the album, Billy also plays guitar on several of the tracks including ‘Great Big Flamingo Moon’.

Nick Lowe praised the band’s ‘refreshing imaginative lyrical ideas’.

Also joining the line-up will be Sonic Pye and MT Wissenberg and Skull Wagon.
