But sadly there are some that have disappeared over time.
Here's a reminder of shops that could be seen on the high street a few years ago.
9. Woolworths
A much-loved shop on the high street, Halifax Woolworths on Market Street closed when the company went into administration in 2009. The space is now a Poundland.
10. Every penny counts
This budget shop in Woolshops closed back in 2008 and has since seen a number of other tenants including mobile phone network Orange, now EE.
11. Going Places
This travel agents in Halifax was hard to miss with its bright orange exterior. The space was later Jewellery shop, Pandora, which has now also closed.
12. Early Learning Centre
The Early Learning Centre was an icon of the high street in Halifax for many years before it closed a few years ago and merged with Mothercare.
