Asda, which has a store in Thrum Hall Lane, have asked members of the public in Calderdale to follow certain measures if they find foreign objects in food sold at one its stores.

The statement comes after an isolated incident, during which a man from Sowerby Bridge allegedly found 'glass' in mince meat from Asda bought via home delivery.

A spokesman from Asda said: “We never want any of our customers to be dissatisfied with our products, but should something not meet the standards they expect we would ask that they return the product to their local store or call our customer service team so that we can fully investigate what could have happened.

Lee Purdy, who lives in Rishworth said: "I recently purchased mince meat from Asda and made a stew for the family, including three children all under the age of five.

"I sat down to eat the following day and bit into some meat and cut my gum with a chunk of glass that was present in the meat.

"I've wrote a note to Asda to inform to recall and investigate, but Asda have just said nothing they can do without original packaging.

"I don't have [the original packaging] because bins were taken away by the time I found [the] object."

Asda said the company cannot investigate it further without packaging details, which would allow them to identify the supplier.

The Asda spokesman said: "We are sorry that Mr Purdy was unhappy with the service he received but as the product has not been returned to store we cannot investigate what this object was or determine where it came from.”

As a result of the case, Asda arranged a egiftcard to Mr Purdy and refunded him £10.
