The Lower Paid Workers’ Group (LPWG) recommends a living wage for lower earners by eradicating the bottom two National Join Council salary scales over the next two years.

LPWG advises the authority to guard against “inappropriate use of zero hours contracts”; communicate positive relationships between skills and opportunity and ensure lower paid staff are supported to reach their potential through implementation of a strategy for inclusive personal and professional development.

Councillor Geraldine Carter who has Cabinet responsibility for use of resources, said: “Calderdale Council is a leading example of driving up working standards in the borough.”
