Both Labour Party MPs for Calderdale and Kirklees have given their support to the new Labour leader Keir Starmer, who has been described as

Mr Starmer's appointment comes after the party's crushing defeat, under Jeremy Corbyn, during December's General Election to the Conservatives.

Halifax and Sowerby Bridge MP, Holly Lynch said: "I'm delighted Kier Starmer is the new leader of the Labour Party.

"These are exceptional times however Keir has the empathy, the ability and the experience to lead the Labour Party to bring people together during the crisis, and transform this country for the future."

Tracy Brabin, MP for Batley and Spen, said: "I'm delighted with the election of Keir Starmer as the Labour Party's new leader, and Angela Rayner as his deputy.

"I nominated both Keir and Angela in the Leadership and Deputy Leadership election and was delighted when the Batley and Spen Constituency Labour Party nominated them too.

"Angela has campaigned with us on many occasions and Keir has been a couple of times, spending time at Foundations Nursery and Batley Food Bank. His message of hope and unity resonated with local members.
