Chance to learn digital skills at Calderdale College

A Digital Marketing Apprenticeship is being launched in Calderdale for 16 to 24-year-olds.

Local businesses in partnership with Calderdale College have developed the project to develop skills needed to work in areas such as video marketing, web development, e-commerce, social media marketing, search engine optimisation and digital brand development.

It is anticipated this area will see huge growth in the next five years.

The first intake will be in September, with applications being taken from May.

Jackie Cox, of Sowerby Bridge based company Liquid Lens said: “We are developing an innovative apprenticeship that could become a beacon for other colleges.

“The apprenticeship combines time spent in college with time spent with employers. It is a great way for our young people to gain employment in a variety of digital marketing businesses.”

Nigel Cliffe, from the Marketing Lab in Hebden Bridge, said it’s important that a relevant apprenticeship is developed in Calderdale.

“There is no training provision for apprentices in digital marketing locally. We must look ahead to ensure we have a properly trained workforce to stimulate Calderdale’s economic growth – I believe the digital creative sector will be vital to this in the next few years,” he said.
