To secure a place on the shortlist, businesses have been appraised across a variety of criteria including innovative approaches to running a new shop, promotional activity undertaken and approaches to sustainable and responsible sourcing of ingredients.

Over the coming weeks, the shortlisted business will be subjected to mystery shopping assessments by industry experts, evaluating both product quality and customer service levels.

This next stage will whittle down the top 10 to the UK’s top three finalists that will go on to compete for the top accolade at the 2017 awards ceremony.

General manager Jonathan Stark said: “We’re absolutely thrilled. We’ve been here 14 months and it just proves that a vision carried out with hard work and determination from everyone can be successful.

“The difference between us and a lot of other chippies is that we’re a restaurant with a chippy on the side.
