Calderdale Council will only open its own venues when it is safe to do so, says a senior councillor.

Deputy Leader of Calderdale Council, and Cabinet member for Regeneration and Resources, Coun Jane Scullion (Lab, Luddenden Foot) said the council would be ready to welcome back people with open arms – when it was safe to do so.

“We’re working with a range of organisations to plan the local recovery and rebuilding of our place and economy.

“Our priority, as always, is to ensure a safe future for everyone.

“The coronavirus will be with us for some time, and our advice is still to stay at home as much as possible, avoid non-essential travel and always follow social distancing rules whenever you are out and about.

“We’ll be ready to showcase Calderdale’s distinctive tourism offer and to welcome visitors back with open arms when we are able, but safety remains our number one concern.

“Therefore we will only reopen our venues when it’s safe to do so, and on that basis we’re keeping everything under review.

“We will continue to support Calderdale’s tourism organisations to help them adapt to the ‘new normal’ and ensure a safe place to visit for all,” she said.
