The Royal Mail office on Gaol Lane has paid for 500 free sandwiches to be given to NHS staff at Baxter’s sandwich shop, across from Calderdale Royal Hospital.

All staff have to do is show their ID badge.

Diane Hartley, who has owned the shop for over 10 years, said: “The Royal Mail office got in touch with me saying they wanted to help a local business and help the NHS.

“I was overwhelmed. We wanted to start something up for key workers like lorry drivers, bin men and they approached us offering to buy 500 sandwiches, it’s pretty amazing.”
