Funeral firm moves to give room for growth
Family firm GE Hartley & Son Funeral Directors, which has been in business for more than 200 years and organised the funeral for the 7th Earl of Harewood, has moved from Church Street in Wetherby to a newly refurbished landmark building on the corner of Westgate (the A661 from Harrogate) and Crossley Street.
The building, which is highly visible to drivers entering the town from the west, has changed use several times over the years, but has stood empty for a number of years.

Hide AdProprietor Stewart Hartley – the seventh generation of his family to work in the business – said: “We were very conscious that the building itself has a prominent position for many people entering Wetherby as well as locally, and we are pleased that we have had a great deal of positive feedback from both local residents and customers.”
The move will give the company, founded in 1808, room to grow, and is the latest move in its programme of expansion; it already has other offices in Thorner and Garforth.
