Halifax firm delivers a super-sized Santa Claus

Halifax-based Display Logic has produced a super-sized Santa for the Royal Mail's first ever special Santa postbox in support of its Letter to Santa campaign.

Display Logic is based at Ladyship Mills in Ovenden and specialises in visual display solutions with high street brand names such as Gap, Bonmarche, Next and Diesel.

The brief was to create a large, fun and jolly Santa Claus that would encapsulate the Christmas spirit to be located within the Westfield’s Shopping Centre in Stratford, London.

Concept 2D visuals were developed, before a hand-sculpted clay model of Santa was created which was then scanned utilising Display Logic’s in-house scanner facility.

Once scanned, the files were transferred through to the milling machine, which recreated the initial concept.

Mark Sharpe, Display Logic’s sales and marketing director, said: “It has been such an exciting project for us and our creative team to work on.

“Last year we invested around £250,000 on our 3D operation, which means we can produce and supply items made from polystyrene and make small items 20 times bigger.

“We’re looking at different markets like supplying theme parks and shopping centres, and we’ve opened another factory 500 yards from where we’re based that created another five jobs.

“We have two sculptors on board there, and it’s a real state-of-the-art facility.

“We employ around 40 staff. The company was started by my dad and step-mum, who worked in visual merchandising.

“They were asked to make certain things and the business started building from there.”

Other festive projects the company has worked on include the design, build and installation of window display units for homeware firm The White Company.

Display Logic also created a pop-up Christmas store for clothing company Gap.

This featured 3D large format glitter lettering and a purpose-built denim desk, which was complemented by manufactured MDF festive trees for bag and gift tag merchandising.
