Members of the Fire Brigade Union (FBU) will walk out on 6pm on Friday until 6pm on Tuesday as part of the ongoing dispute with the Government over pensions.

However, North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said many stations in the county, particularly in the more rural areas will be unaffected by the strikes as many firefighters are retained or not members of the FBU.

The Service said that ‘these staff are fully trained and operational’ and they will move some fire engines closer to locations where crews will be striking to ensure there is fire cover in places across most of the area.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said: “Although we will seek to respond to all emergencies as quickly as possible this will not be a normal level of service as we will be operating with fewer, than normal, resources, and it is possible that it may take longer than usual for some fire engines to arrive if we are very busy.”
