Harrogate firms lead region’s legal sector

Harrogate’s law firms have put in a particularly strong showing in the new edition of the Legal 500 guide to the UK’s lawyers and legal services.

McCormicks Solicitors has leads the way, with recommendations in 18 areas of law, and two in the London section of the guide for its work in sports law and mediation.

There are 21 individual recommendations for seven solicitors at McCormicks, with a total of 12 for senior partner Peter McCormick, who is also ranked in the elite Leading Lawyers list – the Legal 500’s guide to outstanding lawyers nationwide.

“Serious new player” Harrogate Family Law has been named North Yorkshire’s top family law firm.

Founder Andrew Meehan said: “People don’t need to travel far to find the level of experience they need to ensure they have the very best legal representation in their divorce.”

Mr Meehan was also singled out as a leading individual in family law and commended for being “extremely kind and understanding”.

Raworths Solicitors is recommended in six of its practice areas, and three of its lawyers are commended: agriculture partner William Kinread, head of family law Carmelita Ardren, and Rachel Tunnicliffe, who heads the trusts, wills and probate team.

Finally, three solicitors from Berwins have also been recognised as experts: managing director Sarah Smith for family law, senior partner Paul Berwin for IT, telecoms and intellectual property, and James Martin for intellectual property.

The firm itself is ranked in five areas: family, personal tax, trusts and probate, commercial property, intellectual property and IT and telecoms.
