appointed to FA Board

One of the best-known names on the Yorkshire legal scene has been appointed to The FA Board as Premier League representative.

Peter McCormick OBE, senior partner of Harrogate-based McCormicks Solicitors, was unanimously appointed by Premier League clubs to represent the League on both The FA Board and The FA Council.

He becomes one of two Premier League representatives on the Board, the other being Manchester United director David Gill.

Mr McCormick is widely seen as bringing a wealth of experience and understanding to he role. He was Acting Chairman of the Premier League from March 2014 to June 2015 and has worked with the League for over 20 years, including in one of his current roles as chairman of the Legal Advisory Group.

A new Football Board has also been created at the Premier League and Peter McCormick will chair that.

In addition to being appointed a Director of the FA and a member of the FA Council, he has also been appointed a member of the FA’s Professional Game Board, the Professional Game Forum, and the FA International Committee, members of which represent England in an ambassadorial capacity at matches away from Wembley.

Mr McCormick is ranked as one of the leading Sports lawyers in the UK by the two principal guides to the legal profession, the UK Legal 500 and Chambers UK. He was awarded an OBE for services to charity in 2000.

He said: “My experience as Acting Chairman means I have no problem taking on these additional roles while continuing to provide a first-class service to our clients at McCormicks.”

The FA Board is made up of 12 people, including four national game representatives, four professional game representatives, of whom Mr McCormick is one, two independent non-executive directors, a chief executive and the chairman, former director general of the BBC Greg Dyke.

The FA consists of a permanent staff, predominantly based at its headquarters at Wembley Stadium and St. George’s Park in Burton.
