HGV fire causes delays on M62

A lane of the M62 had to be closed this morning after the wheel arch of a HGV caught fire.

The incident happened eastbound between junction 22 A672 (Rishworth Moor) and junction 23 A640 (Huddersfield) at 6.24am.

Three appliances from Elland fire station attended and used one hose reel to put out the fire.

For the firefighters safety, the left hand lane of the motorway had to be closed for just over half an hour - causing delays for motorists.

The driver of the HGV was uninjured and the cause of the fire is under investigation,
