Historic Elland sweet producers Joseph Dobson and Sons to close shop in town centre after 70 years

The family-run company was established in 1850 and is renowned for creating the Yorkshire Mixture.

However the company has revealed it will be closing its shop in Southgate.

Posting on its Facebook page the sweet manufacturer said: "It is with great regret that we are announcing the closure of our shop during September 2020.

"This decision has been extremely difficult as our shop has been in the heart of the community and Elland town centre for almost 70 years.

"Unfortunately, the ongoing decrease in footfall throughout Elland has had a significant impact on declining retail sales.

"Our factories in Elland remain very busy so our products will continue to be available nationwide in Supermarkets, Department Stores, Wholesalers and Independent Retailers.

"In addition, the full range of Joseph Dobson’s products are available online from our website at www.dobsons.co.uk

"We will be offering free delivery on all local orders subject to a minimum £25.00 spend on our website (HX & HD postcodes).

"We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our loyal customers for your custom and support over the past 70 years and we look forward to continuing to supply your sweet and lollipop favourites from our website."
