Calderdale Council and West Yorkshire Combined Authority are keen to hear what people think about the station now and how they want to see it improved in the future.

There are also proposals for the station access bridge to be replaced with a landscaped entrance and new areas for shops. The new station will be accessible for everyone and will include step-free access.

Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Strategy, Councillor Barry Collins, said: “There’s not long left to have your say on the current facilities at Halifax Rail Station to help us shape future improvements.

“The station is the gateway to the town and for many visitors the first part of Halifax they’ll see. I’d like to encourage people to take part in this important survey to help us ensure that the station improvement plans focus on the issues that are most important to local rail users.”

The short online survey is open until Friday December 7 and asks people to rate various aspects of the station, including access, bus services, parking, waiting facilities and connections the town centre. It also enables them to indicate what they see as priority improvements.

Feedback from the survey will be used to help shape more detailed designs that will be prepared and consulted on in 2019.

Councillor Kim Groves, Chair of the West Yorkshire Combined Authority Transport Committee said: “In line with the aims of our West Yorkshire-plus Transport Fund, this scheme to revitalise the Halifax Station will support inclusive economic growth by attracting new investment, jobs and tourism.

“I would encourage anyone interested in Halifax’s Next Chapter to go online and have their say on this key element of their town, Calderdale and the North’s future development.”

West Yorkshire-plus Transport Fund schemes are supported through the Leeds City Region Local Enterprise Partnership Growth Deal – a £1 billion package of Government investment delivered in partnership with the West Yorkshire Combined Authority to accelerate growth and create jobs across Leeds City Region.
