Phillipa Smith launched Fine Fettle, on Cheltenham Crescent in Harrogate town centre, to meet the increasing demand for shoppers who prefer to shun the major chain stores and “shop local”.

“I often use the wealth of Harrogate social media sites for buying and selling and noticed the amazing number of talented and creative people selling handcrafted items via social media.

“The seed of an idea was planted, and when I spotted the empty unit in Harrogate whilst driving by one day, things fell into place,” she said.

The shop sells handcrafted gifts from 30 small Yorkshire businesses, including jewellery, clothing, homewares, furniture, beauty products, artwork and photography.

“I’ve been showcasing the various products via the Fine Fettle facebook page which has helped generate interest. Really though the photos don’t get across how amazing the products are – feedback from customers has been fantastic and totally reinforces my belief that local shoppers are keen to support independent traders,” she added.
