The engineers provide the emergency gas response service for the region, keeping customers safe when they smell gas, and making emergency repairs.

The engineers are providing care packages to vulnerable customers, while they are out and about in local communities. The packages contain non-perishable food items such as rice, pasta and tinned food, as well as hand sanitiser and puzzle books.

Hundreds of packages have already been delivered across Yorkshire. As well as delivering the packages to individual households, packages are also being provided to local charities and care homes. Recipients have included Norton House care home in Elland, AGE UK in Leeds, and WISE (Wetherby in Support of the Elderly), a charity with supports the over 60s.

Steven Dacre, Northern Gas Networks’ customer experience development manager, said: “The care packages have been really well received. We have a large and mobile workforce throughout the region, so it makes sense to help customers who can’t get to the shops, because they are self-isolating or shielding.

“As a business, we are doing all we can to help customers through this difficult time. We’ve already delivered hundreds of packages throughout the region and will keep the support coming.”
