She said: “I would like to extend my thanks to all of those who have worked through this awful pandemic and gone above and beyond every day to help those in need.

“Once again, I have seen the people of Calderdale come together in times of crisis, not long after dealing with some devastating storms in the early part of this year and the impacts of flooding in years gone past. I have seen lots of individuals and organisations (too many to mention here) working so hard to help others through this frightening time in many different ways. I have seen creativity, determination, and grit not only to survive this period but to recover, renew and heal from it too.

“It demonstrates the real resilience and kindness that this Borough represents. At the Piece Hall we have been lighting up the space regularly to thank the NHS, keyworkers, delivery drivers and those who sacrificed so much for our freedom in WW2, in our VE celebration projection and video made with the very talented Halo Vue. Then local but internationally renowned Ellie Sax also put on a lockdown concert which was streamed from The Piece Hall, and was really well received.

“My talented team have also been working with schools and families to help them continue to learn and be educated during lockdown or engaged isolated people in online crafts and art projects. My chefs cooked up 12,000 meals with Food4Heroes for those working on the frontline.

“We honoured the NHS 72nd birthday and all those who have worked so hard through this crisis with some artwork created by the highly respected artist Ian Berry who approached me as he wanted to showcase his ‘I Clap For’ animation at The Piece Hall, alongside some of the most iconic sites in the UK such as The Royal Festival Hall, Edinburgh Castle and The Angel of the North.

“Together we have worked with film production company Halo Vue to create a new film featuring The Piece Hall as a platform to share our thanks to the NHS and local heroes, and to bring messages from our community together.

“Thank-you somehow doesn’t seem enough for how people have responded to this crisis, but it’s a start. I wish all of you and your loved ones to remain safe and look forward to seeing you all back at The Piece Hall soon.”

Thanks to all the organisations and individuals who supplied photos for this campaign.

The Halifax Courier approached several groups and organisations ... we couldn’t possibly get to everybody, and some were unable at this time to participate, but don’t worry if you or your staff aren’t featured. We’re more than happy to devote more pages in the near future for more Big Thank You pictures. If you’d like to send in photos please email [email protected], including the names of those pictured and what they do, or have done, in the coronavirus effort.
