The Pavilions of Harrogate filled to capacity as 490 people packed in to hear the UK’s most famous short actor speak. Weeks before the event, it had sold out within 15 minutes of the organisers announcing the identity of the speaker, and 200 people had to be turned away.

In the event, the 3’ 6” performer caused the kind of stir that only major – and majorly popular – stars can generate.

“I’ve never seen so many people wanting to have their photos taken with the speaker – it was like a One Direction concert,” said organiser Howard Matthews.

Mr Davis, whose first acting job was on Star Wars at age 11, spoke for 50 minutes about his early life, the challenges he’s overcome, and his highly successful career, which has seen him star in Life Is Short, Willow and Harry Potter films.

The Harrogate Business Luncheon is held three times a year and organised by Howard Matthews Partnership, Williams Investment Management, Lloyds Bank and the Harrogate Advertiser Series, and is sponsored by Harrogate-based commercial energy supplier CNG Ltd.

The next event will be held on Friday, October 9. The speaker has yet to be confirmed.
