Trade Union GMB has agreed emergency cover during the industrial action by paramedics and other ambulance staff in the North on Monday, October 13

The strike has arisen because of the Government’s overruling of the independent, NHS Pay Review Body’s (PRB) recommendation for a one per cent consolidated pay rise across the board for all NHS staff.

However medical director David Birkenhead at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust said: “At present, the Trust is not expecting the day of industrial action by some unions on Monday, October 13, 2014, to disrupt our ability to deliver care for all our patients.

“We have extensive contingency plans in place in all areas to ensure our Trust continues to deliver a full range of care and support services for all our inpatients and outpatients. If you have an appointment on the day please attend as usual.”

Local government and school support workers who were due for industrial action on October 14 have suspended.

The three unions which represent more than 1.5 million workers in government and schools – UNISON, GMB and UNITE – have decided to suspend strike action and consult their members on new proposals put forward by the Local Government Association as the best achievable by negotiation.
