Traders get chance to question Calderdale town centre work contractors

Some Brighouse businesses are being invited to a question-and-answer session with contractors undertaking major town centre work.

The event has been organised by Brighouse BID and is open to businesses who pay the BID levy.

Brighouse BID is hosting the “BID Brew” event with Esh Construction, who are undertaking the works, which will take around 18 months to complete.

The event will be held between 5pm and 7pm on Wednesday, April 29, at Brighouse Central Methodist Church on Commercial Street.

“Representatives from Esh will once again be in attendance to answer any questions you may have in relation to the current Town Deal construction work in the town centre,” says Brighouse BID.

Levy-paying businesses who would like to attend should email BID project manager Helen Holdsworth at [email protected].

They can also submit any questions they may have beforehand via email to [email protected] and the Esh team will aim to cover all the answers at the session.

Since work started, the BID are among support organisations stepping up promotion that the town is very much “open for business.”

The latest works involve upgrading streets and public spaces with the aim of encouraging people to spend more time, more often, in Brighouse.

While these will ultimately benefit Brighouse, there is some inevitable disruption while work is carried out, for example road closures.

Work is being carried out in three phases, with each area being completed before going on to the next.

The board says schedules are being developed to minimise disruption to the everyday working of the town.

The first phase has focused on the west area of the town, taking in Commercial Street between Gooder Street and Park Street, Briggate between Thornton Square and Commercial Street, and Market Street, West Park Street and Ship Street, and is expected to run until summer.

Phase two sees attention switch to the east, taking in Commercial Street between Park Street and Bradford Road, and Park Street, Park Row, King Street and Bradford Road (scheduled summer to winter 2026).

The third phase concentrates on the Bethel Street area, including Bethel Street car park (scheduled winter 2026 to spring 2027).
