Followers of the restaurant’s Facebook page were invited to nominate key workers to win a voucher to use at the restaurant.

The competition was originally launched with a prize of a £50 gift voucher for one lucky winner but as restaurant Executive Director Sarah Horsley explained: “2020 isn’t the year we’ve been hoping for and although the situation has hit us hard, we felt it was important to recognise those right at the forefront.

“On reading the nominations in our competition, we realised it would be impossible to select just one winner.

“Key workers across Halifax are going above and beyond the call of duty every day and we really wanted to do something to support them.

“With 20 people nominated, we felt we could add to the huge community effort occurring in Halifax by acknowledging all 20 of them.

“It’s our way of saying thank you to just some of those working tirelessly to help keep our community going and keep people safe.

“We hope it gives them a little morale boost to know that we and their loved ones are thinking of them.”

Recipients of the winning gift vouchers include Shannon Marie, who has worked on the COVID-19 Ward at Calderdale Royal throughout the pandemic.

Shannon was nominated by her uncle, who wrote: “Times have been hard, but Shannon has still been there for her patients with a beaming smile and helping in any way she can to get them through a tough time. Well done Shannon and everyone else at Calderdale Royal.”

Ollie Gerrard, who has 3D printed and donated 2,588 visors/face shields to frontline workers who required protection, running his printers 24/7, was also nominated. Ollie did this whilst working a full-time job and doing his degree.
