"You’re hired!” is the final finger-pointing Lord Sugar phrase every candidate wants to hear on TV’s The Apprentice – but in real life it’s not just about getting hired.

It's also about recognising and rewarding the hard work and dedication of those starting out in their chosen careers.

That's why it's crucial to highlight and award the achievements of apprentices, and celebrate their contributions to industries and communities.

West Yorkshire Apprentice Awards is here to do just that in our search to celebrate hardworking organisations and individuals involved in apprenticeships across the region.

With almost a million active apprenticeships across England, apprenticeship schemes have become a popular route to future employment for thousands of school leavers.

Winning an award is not only a recognition for the apprentice, but it's also a morale boost for the company and the workforce that supports the apprentice.

The West Yorkshire Apprentice Awards have 14 different categories, including SME Employer of the Year (0-249), Large Employer of the Year, Diversity and Inclusion Programme, Mentor of the Year, Intermediate Apprentice of the Year, Advanced Apprentice of the Year, Higher Apprentice of the Year, Degree Apprentice of the Year, Professional Services Apprentice of the Year, Health & Public Service Apprentice of the Year, Construction Apprentice of the Year, Engineering/Manufacturing Apprentice of the Year, Technology and Digital Apprentice of the Year, and Training Provider of the Year.

Shortlisted individuals will be invited to join sponsors and other business leaders to attend a glitzy black-tie awards ceremony, where winners will be announced, at Tileyard North, Wakefield, on May 24, 2023, from 6.45 pm to 11.45 pm.

Yorkshire & Humber Apprenticeship Ambassador Network, Haribo, FDM Group, Zenith, Bradford College, Appris, Royal Navy and Yorkshire Housing are the category sponsors without whom the event wouldn't be possible.

The awards recognise apprentices, mentors, businesses and training providers that are supporting the development of a skilled workforce for the future.

It is an opportunity for individuals and organisations to be recognised for their hard work and dedication to apprenticeships.

Kate Woolard, the manager of Oh So Yum in White Rose Shopping Centre, has been nominated in the Advanced Apprentice of the Year category.

She attended the West Yorkshire Apprentice Awards last year with BBC Apprentice winner Harpreet Kaur, said: “Having been on this apprenticeship, it gave me the confidence but also the knowledge and tools and tricks on how to be able to get around it and also be able to deal with these sorts of situations.”
